Chapter 7: Pricing

E-ACTIVITY: PRICING POLICIES (p. 271)

Activity: Investigate the Pricing Policies of Various Marketers

Marketers develop the pricing policies that they believe will attract the most consumers and result in higher profitability. In this activity, you will determine the different types of pricing strategies of a fast food restaurant, a department store, a specialty store, and an electronics store.

  1. Visit the following Web sites and complete the organizer "Comparing the Pricing Strategies of Various Stores," similar to the example shown below. Please note that some pricing strategies would not apply for some marketers on the chart because the required information would not be available on the Web site and any one marketer would not use all pricing policies.

  1. Examine your organizer and discuss your findings with a partner. What pricing policies are similar for all stores? What policies are different? Why?

  2. Prepare a one-page report on the pricing policies used by different stores with an explanation of why you think those policies are being used.
